The EFCPBPP offers the following opportunities for the training of eye care professionals;
- Ophthalmic Residency Training Program
- Ophthalmic Subspecialty Fellowship program

- Ophthalmic Residency Program: The EFCPBPP has been in existence for close to 18 years now and has seen the training and graduation into Ophthalmologists of several former ophthalmic residents. From its inception the residency program has had a strong flavor for the training of world-class ophthalmologists, to become leaders in their respective fields. The goal is to within the 5 year period of residency training to inculcate into the residents a desire to provide qualitative care to the patients, show a strong desire to advance the frontiers of knowledge in his or her chosen specialty, to provide community based care and to be a manager of resources within the healthcare team.. During the residency period, the candidate will be under supervision by both local and international faculty and will be encouraged to sit for and pass all assessments to be administered at the appropriate time. Assessments shall be announced at specific times. Exams which shall be administered include but are not limited to examinations organized by , the international council of ophthalmology, the national postgraduate college, the West African postgraduate college and the Royal college of surgeon (Glasgow). - Ophthalmic Subspecialty Fellowship program: The desire and need to improve the quality of ophthalmic education and practice within the country and subregion has lead to the formation of the ophthalmic subspecialty fellowship program. The training offers subspecialty training in the fields of cornea, medical retina, vitreo-retina surgery, glaucoma, cataract , pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, and community based ophthalmology.
The EFCPBPP is an ICO recognized training host and has offered training to several subspecialists. For details on how to apply, please visit the ICO website at www.icoph.org. The trainee can be involved in observerships or may desire hands on experience in which case he / she will require to provide evidence of limited registration with the Nigerian Medical and Dental Council (NMDC). This registration can be arranged for foreign applicants provided the trainee has a primary qualification registerable with the NMDC. Sandwich programs can be arranged in which the trainee is provided with the training with fragmented periods of 3 monthly intervals can be arranged on request.
- Short Term Courses: The desire to impact training and knowledge in specific areas and aspects of ophthalmology has lead to the design of 2 to 4 weeks short courses offered in the following areas ; to include but not limited to phacoemulsification conversion ( for already experienced cataract surgeons only), small incision cataract surgery (SICS), intravitreal injections, retinal laser photocoagulation, glaucoma lasers, B scan ultasonography, fundus flourescein angiography (FFA), optical coherence tomography (OCT), gonioscopy, evaluation of the pediatric patient and strabismus, squint surgery.
Admission into any of the programs or courses is subject to availability of a space or slot and is on first come, first serve basis.
